Is there a website out there that lets you search new vehicles by specific specifications? I’m specifically looking for towing spec search.

Not that I’ve found. The closest/thing I’ve come across are the Trailer Life annual tow rating guide and build a spreadsheet off of that.

Boating magazine has a database that might be useful, although I’ve spotted a few inaccuracies in it and it isn’t always complete for equipment requirements to achieve a vehicles max rating . Trailer B oats magazine had the definitive database before they ceased to exist a few years back. Your best bet is probably each manufactures towing guide that will be lurking somewhere on their website.

Buying. I wanted to see if there was something surprising out there that serves my needs that isn’t a truck. I tow 3500lbs occasionally, so ideally I want something rated at 5,000lbs.
I can do the leg work, but was hoping to have something auto populate

you shouldn't have any trouble with those numbers. pretty much any midsize + crossover can swing that. Cherokee, rav4 and Pathfinder all punch above their weight classes for towing.

Yea. I was hoping something else might pop up. Maybe a hybrid.
3500lbs on the hitch, but then add 4 adults and luggage/gear, hills and especially un maintained boat ramps . I want something that does it effortlessly... Like my Silverado. But hoping for better day to day fuel economy. I might wait for the 3.0 Duramax Silverado of its actually going to “impressively exceed 30mpg” as GM engineers have claimed.
Might be grasping at cake and eat it too.
I’m surprised someone like MotorTrend doesn’t have a better search database.

If you’re in the USA, you pretty much need a new diesel truck for anything more than a bicycle rack on the hitch. Plan accordingly.

I think the tricky part is that as equipped can make it vary widely. Even tire size alone.

I just got a Honda Passport and it’s rated for 5000 with the towing package. I love it so far. Handles great, good power, and if I’m easy on the throttle, good gas mileage too. Beat the MPG number on the sticker on first road trip, got 27 mpg.
